• The P4 Language Consortium Appoints Fabian Ruffy as Chief Architect

The P4 Language Consortium announces the appointment of Fabian Ruffy as its new Chief Architect. He is currently a PhD candidate in the systems lab at New York University and a member of the P4 Technical Steering Team (TST). Fabian is a long-standing contributor to the official P4 compiler and is also the primary developer of the P4.org project, P4Testgen, an open source test-case generation tool for P4 programs.

As P4 Chief Architect, Fabian will have responsibility for managing support of the P4 community, driving the technical direction of some of the P4 projects, and fostering collaboration between members of the community.

As part of his new role Fabian is spearheading the inaugural participation of P4.org community members in Google Summer of Code. The Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a global, online program focused on bringing new contributors into open source software development. As part of the program, GSoC contributors work with an open source organization on a 12+ week programming project under the guidance of mentors.

We would also like to recognize and thank the outgoing P4 Chief Architect, Nate Foster. Nate has played a key role in driving growth within the P4 community, helping to make it a thriving, diverse ecosystem of developers from across the world. Nate has been instrumental in laying the theoretical foundations of the P4 Language, connecting P4 members in academia and industry, and supporting the growth of the P4 community by developing the communication platforms it uses today. Nate will be continuing to support and participate in the P4 community going forward with his role as Co-Chair of the P4 Language Design Working Group and as a member of the P4 TST.
